EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

September 13 & September 14, 2008

Love is the key that can open another’s heart. Our goal is to love one another as Christ has loved us. Therefore, be assured that you’re lovingly welcomed to God’s house. Let us rejoice together now! Guests are encouraged to introduce yourselves to Pastor Allison and Pastor Akers and complete the information in the Rite of Fellowship pad located on the pew in the Sanctuary. Large print services and assistive listening devices are available from the ushers or at the Welcome Center. For Pastoral Care please call Pastor Allison or Pastor Akers at the church or at home. A Sitting Room [in the east wing] and a Nursery [in the west wing] are available for infants through age three during each worship service. If little ones become restless during the service and are disturbing other worshipers, please take them out of the service until they have settled down. Thank you!  “The Lutheran Hour” can be heard every Sunday at 8:00 AM on WIOU 1350 AM, sponsored by Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer.

REDEEMER LUTHERAN SCHOOL NEWS

SECURING EACH CHILD’S FUTURE… FOR ETERNITY.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” Jer. 29:11

“Plans to give you a hope and a future…” Despite our failures, we have the hope of eternal life through Jesus’ defeat of sin and death.  Hope is powerful and steadfast-that is why the devil seeks to take it away.  Jesus provides us with hope.  Hope for today. Hope for the future.   God desires for us to give the gift of hope to our students.  Thank you for your continued support of Redeemer Lutheran School, a place where hope can be shared through His Word and through His people.  You are a blessing to us!

SUBS:  We are always in need of substitute teachers. If you are interested in becoming a sub for Redeemer Lutheran School, or know of someone who might be interested, please contact the school office.

SCIENCE LAB: The furniture for the new science lab has arrived.  We are so excited about everything that was donated and can be put to use in the new lab.  We are still in the “moving in” phase, but don’t let that keep you from coming in and checking things out. We are always happy to give you a tour of the building.

VOLUNTEERS:  Do you like to read?  We are in need of some people to tape some of our textbooks for students. If you would be willing to share that beautiful voice of yours, please contact Ms. Lavrenz in the school office for more information.

SCHOOL NEWSLETTER: Coming the first of October, you will see a new look for the school newsletter. Our students are having a contest to name the newsletter and then we will revamp it for publication.  If you are interested in getting a copy, there will be newsletters in the Welcome Center each week.

IMPORTANT PRIMEUIMER UPDATES

PRIMEUIMERS’ SEPTEMBER ACTIVITY – CANCELLED!!!!!!!!!!

The PrimeUimer activity for September has been CANCELLED due to scheduling conflicts!

NOVEMBER ACTIVITY

The PrimeUimers’ December activity has been replaced this year and moved to November.  The Honeywell Theater in Wabash, IN. has scheduled the comedy play of “Church Basement Ladies” on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 7:00 PM.  This is a hilarious play portraying the activities of church ladies.  It has reviews of being very funny.  Some PrimeUimers have already signed up with Paul Bastaich and are already listed on the sign-up sheet.  A total of 50 reservations have been made.  You will have until October 1st to sign up.  Any seats left at that time will need to be turned back to the theater.  The cost is $23.00 per ticket.  There is a buffet dinner available at the theater prior to the play.  The buffet dinner costs $16.19, which includes beverage, tax and gratuity.  Please indicate on the sign-up sheet if you want dinner.  Show & dinner would cost $39.19 per ticket, check made payable to Paul Bastaich by Oct. 1st.   The sign-up sheet is at the Welcome Center.  Any questions, please talk to Paul Bastaich.

SERVING THE LORD

When we speak of stewardship, we talk of our time, talents and treasures. Would you consider giving of your time and talent to the Lord’s work? If you have the gift of singing, consider this your invitation to join one of our choirs. For details, see David Britton. If you play a musical instrument, see Florence Moeller. If you are good with maintenance, call one of our Board of Property members.  This list could go on and on. If you have time to serve the Lord, why not serve the Lord?

FROM OUR PARISH NURSE

How did you rate yourself on the Wellness Survey last week?  If you missed it, there are more copies.  As September is National Cholesterol Month, you will find on the table near the Welcome Center, a handout that provides the recommended levels.  Exercise sheets are also available.  Mark the date of Monday, September 29th at 7:00 PM on your calendar.  Ginny Hingst will be providing a program for Redeemer entitled “Healthy Body, Healthy Mind, Healthy Spirit”.

WATCH #5

We Are The CHurch is a spiritual renewal weekend designed to further your relationship

with God and other Christians. It is a rare opportunity to escape from the temptations and traps of the world. WATCH #5 will take place October 10-12 at Sangralea Valley. Register by filling out a lunar blue form and place it in the lunar blue box marked WATCH at the Welcome Center.   A common question asked about WATCH: Are you suggesting my relationship with the Lord needs “furthering?” Yes. Romans 3:23 – “ALL (emphasis added) have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”  We are not immune from worldly influence by virtue of being saved by our faith in God’s plan of salvation. As believers, we will spend the rest of our lives applying the gospel to our lives and growing in relationship with God. WATCH is one of God’s many tools. The weekend offers a golden opportunity to get out of the world and focus on what God wants out of you. Your WATCH team is praying that you take advantage of this tool.  Next week's question: Earlier, I believe you said something about eating?

REFORMATION SERVICE CHILI / HOT DOG SUPPER - GOOD SHEPHERD

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church invites Our Redeemer members to the annual Reformation Service at their facility.  The service is Sunday, October 26th with a chili/hot dog supper prior to worship.  The meal will begin at 5:30 PM and the service at 6:30 PM.  All congregation members need to bring is an appetite for food, song, fellowship and worship.

J FAMILY FRIENDLY IDEA

J Be willing to correct your child during the service - Often young children will take advantage of a public situation to test their parents. It is comforting to know that the same thing has happened to other families in the church. When your child will not sit still, it is important for a parent to remove the child from the sanctuary for correction. After you have regained control of your child, return to the service. Except under special circumstances, it is important not to leave the service permanently, since that will only encourage your child to act up the following Sunday so they can get out of the service.

RLS VOLLEYBALL

"Come watch us serve" the volleyball and our Lord.  The Royals will start their season this week with home games on Wednesday and Thursday.  Both games begin at 6:30 PM
