LWML SUNDAY

October 4 & October 5, 2008

Thank you for worshiping with us this day as we celebrate LWML Sunday.  Guests are encouraged to introduce yourselves to Pastor Allison and Pastor Akers and complete the information in the Rite of Fellowship pad located on the pew in the Sanctuary. Large print services and assistive listening devices are available from the ushers or at the Welcome Center. For Pastoral Care please call Pastor Allison or Pastor Akers at the church or at home. A Sitting Room [in the east wing] and a Nursery [in the west wing] are available for infants through age three during each worship service. If little ones become restless during the service and are disturbing other worshipers, please take them out of the service until they have settled down. Thank you!  “The Lutheran Hour” can be heard every Sunday at 8:00 AM on WIOU 1350 AM, sponsored by Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer.

LWML SUNDAY

Our Lutheran Women’s Missionary Service Guild and the women are a very active group throughout the year.  LWML is a part of this group.  We collect “Mites” for missions as a year around project.  The money is used in special ways all around the world. Look for the display box in the Narthex and put your change in a little box there.  Note the beautiful quilts gracing the pews in the church.  These are made by a special group of ladies.  They meet every Thursday morning to sew.  These quilts are given out all around the world also.  Some quilts were given to the home owners that were helped during Mission Possible VI.  They have been taken to Mexico and many other places where our church goes on mission trips.  A number of ladies make and sew dolls and bears for missions. We also have Hands of Love, a knitting group that makes shawls, scarves and other articles for special needs, here in our area and elsewhere.  This group meets every Monday.  LWML and our LWMSG are busy ladies doing the Lord’s word.  Come join us Ladies, have fun and SERVE THE LORD!

ALTAR FLOWERS

Three families are placing flowers on the Lord’s altar this weekend of LWML Sunday.  Chuck & Barbara Borneman in thanksgiving to God for His many blessings.  By Jim & Teddi Heinzman in observance of their wedding anniversary, and to thank God for their family, and the blessing of a new granddaughter.  Also by Marvin & Sally Schindel in thanksgiving for all of God's many blessings and in memory of their son, Gil.

THANKS FOR YOUR LOVE!

Renee Young and family would like to express heartfelt thanks to their Christian family for the many cards, sympathy, and prayers during this difficult time at the loss of her father, Chet.  God's Blessings to all who share Christ's Love.

LIFE CHAIN

SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS

First of all, please congratulate your child on achieving their goal for 2008 Spring and Summer quarters.  Because of Redeemer’s generous children, we were able to send a $500.00 check to Kokomo’s Habitat for Humanity.  Our Sunday School children should be proud of themselves to know that they have done something great for our community!

All 3-4-5 graders!  Pick up the new Bible Bookmark at the Welcome Center.  The topic is “More Miracles of Jesus.”

WATCH #5 will take place October 10-12 at Sangralea Valley. Register by filling out a lunar blue form and place it in the lunar blue box marked WATCH at the Welcome Center. Deadline for registration: Sunday, October 5.

A common question asked about WATCH: What should I wear and what do I bring?  Dress is casual and comfortable. There is no reason to dress formally unless you want to. After you register, you will be mailed a letter with a list of items you need to bring. The list will include things like a pillow, a sheet and blanket, toiletries, etc.

J FAMILY FRIENDLY IDEA

J Don’t be afraid to sit in the front of the church with your young children.  They will be able to better see what is happening during the service and you might be surprised that they behave better as a result.  Besides, kids like to sit in the front row.

FROM OUR PARISH NURSE

Invest in your health – eat wisely.  Sometimes the strongest longings for food happen when you are at your weakest point emotionally.  Many people turn to food for comfort.  A handout entitled, “Healthy Eating: Mood and Food” describes their connection.  Pick up a copy from the table near the Welcome Center.  An upcoming event:  HOWARD COUNTY HEALTH FAIR, OCTOBER 23RD, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM at the Kokomo Event Center [formerly known as the Johanning Center].

THRIVENT FINANCIAL

If you’re a GM / Delphi retiree and are losing your insurance, have you thought about Thrivent Financial for Lutherans? Thrivent Financial for Lutherans offers Medicare Supplement insurance, and Medicare Part D through United Health and Humana.  Everyone is welcome to attend a seminar entitled, “Who is Thrivent Financial for Lutherans” on Thursday, October 9th at 7:00 PM at Christ Lutheran Church, 3401 South Dixon Road.  If you’ve heard about Thrivent but are not sure what they do, please come and listen to Lee Daniels, Indiana Regional Partner.  Lee will talk about Thrivent’s heritage and give a high level overview of Thrivent Financial.  He will also discuss what insurance needs Thrivent offers for retirees.  Do not make a decision until you hear what Thrivent has to offer.  In order to provide snacks and refreshments, please RSVP to J.J. Stoltenberg or Greg Sullivan in the Kokomo office at 454-9930.

STEWARDS LIVING A GOD-PLEASING LIFE

This year's stewardship theme is STEWARDS LIVING A GOD-PLEASING LIFE.  We have been "created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10).  Together we'll learn how God not only prepares the work we are to do, but prepares and equips us, His stewards, to do that work.

Be sure to join your brothers and sisters in Christ as we study God's Word to find how we can be STEWARDS LIVING A GOD-PLEASING LIFE.  Both our worship and Bible study will focus on the following themes:

10-12-08       FAITH IS THE FOUNDATION

10-19-08       DISCIPLESHIP IS THE PATH

10-26-08       GENEROSITY IS THE HALLMARK

It is our prayer that each of us will be overwhelmed again and again at the grace of God which has created us, saved us, and daily offers us forgiveness and strength to be stewards who please Him.

Commitment Sunday is October 26, 2008, which will be a day of joyful response to that
