THE 9TH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

July 24 & July 25, 2010

We strive to make the Lord’s house a place of joy. With joy, we welcome you and pray that you’re filled with hope and happiness as you lift up your heart to God. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Allison or Pastor Akers and complete the information in the Rite of Fellowship pad located on the pew. Large print services and assistive listening devices are available from the ushers or at the Welcome Center. For Pastoral Care please call Pastor Allison or Pastor Akers at the church or at home. A Sitting Room [in the east wing] and a Nursery [in the west wing] are available for infants through age three during each worship service. If little ones become restless during the service and are disturbing other worshipers, please take them out of the service until they have settled down. Thank you!  “The Lutheran Hour” can be heard every Sunday at 8:00 AM on WIOU and sponsored by Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer.

SILENT DAY OF PRAYER – WEDNESDAY – JULY 28TH

ADULT BIBLE CLASS

Adult Bible Class continues the video series with lesson 5, “Science:  What is True?” – Part 2”.  The Truth Project, presented by Focus on the Family, is a DVD-based curriculum comprised of 12 one-hour lessons taught by Dr. Del Tackett. This study is the starting point for looking at life from a Biblical perspective. Each lesson discusses in great detail the relevance and importance of living the Christian worldview in daily life.  This class meets in Mission Hall at 9:30 AM.

Children: Don’t forget to pick up the new Bible Bookmark at

the Welcome Center.  The topic for this week is “Peace.”

YOUNG ADULT BIBLE CLASS

High school graduates, college students, and young adults, we have a Bible study geared especially for you.  As God’s written Word, the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments are the source of His revelation to man.  Join us in the Adult Education Room during the Sunday School hour as we learn about the production, collection, transmission, and preservation of these marvelous works in How We Got The Bible, featuring Dr. Paul L. Maier.  Listen as Dr. Maier shares his expertise and enthusiasm on the preservation and transmission of God's Word through the centuries. Dave Turner is the facilitator of this study.

MEN'S TUESDAY BIBLE CLASS

Explaining all of the Scary Stuff in REVELATIONS featuring Rev. Ken Klaus is one of the more popular Men's Network Bible Studies.  Our Tuesday morning men's Bible study group is currently using this video based study at 7:00 AM each week.

WATCH #7

We Are The CHurch is a spiritual renewal weekend designed to further your relationship with God and other Christians. It is a rare opportunity to escape from the temptations and traps of the world. WATCH #7 will take place September 24-26 at Sangralea Valley. Register by filling out a lift off lemon form and place it in the box marked WATCH at the Welcome Center.

WATCH COMMONLY ASKED QUESTION

A commonly asked question about WATCH: (This one will REALLY hurt...) What about my kids’ games I will have to miss that weekend? There is nothing more heart-warming to us parents than to see our offspring compete on the playing field. Our child may be the hero of the game or he/she may be the one who made the pass that led to the pass that led to a goal. It doesn’t matter what their contributions are – we burst with pride.  To be sure, our children have special contests that no sane parent would miss – the league championship, Senior Night…BUT let us raise this question – is it necessary or even God-pleasing to be in attendance at every single contest your child participates in? This is a question for you to discuss with your Lord. There will never be any judgment on our part.  And don’t forget the invention of the video-camera, which can capture the special moments you might miss.  Next week's question: What happens during all that time? What if I get bored?

90TH BIRTHDAY OPEN HOUSE

The congregation is invited to a 90th birthday open house for Pauline B on Sunday, July 25, 2010 from 1 – 3 PM in Mission Hall.

STEWARDSHIP MINUTE

We became God’s stewards when the Holy Spirit called us to be God’s children through the washing of Holy Baptism and the word of salvation in Christ Jesus.  In Christ God made us alive and gives us the power to use all that we are and have [time, life, relationships, skills and money] for His purposes.  There is no greater calling in life than being a child of God in thoughts, words and actions! Colossians 2:6-15

GROUNDS

The Grounds for high school youth (including the newly confirmed 8th graders) meets in the Youth Room tonight (Sunday) from 6:30-8:30 PM.  Questions? talk to Jonathan Guse or Pastor Akers.

J FAMILY FRIENDLY IDEA

J Today, give your child a job to do relating to worship.  Perhaps your child could find a special color.  Maybe he/she could find different letters of the alphabet or place pages of the bulletin as bookmarkers for the hymns we’ll be singing.

PASTOR RUDY BLANK – COMING WEEKEND OF AUGUST 22ND

Pastor Rudy & Romona Blank, longtime missionaries to Venezuela will be visiting Our Redeemer.  Pastor Blank will be preaching each worship service and leading Adult Bible Class that weekend.
