THE SEVENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

July 10 & July 11, 2010

The author of Psalm 84 wrote: “My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God” (verse 2, NRSV). We welcome each of you as we share the privilege of worshiping God together. If you are a guest, thank you for visiting. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Allison or Pastor Akers and complete the information in the Rite of Fellowship pad located on the pew. Large print services and assistive listening devices are available from the ushers or at the Welcome Center. For Pastoral Care please call Pastor Allison or Pastor Akers at the church or at home. A Sitting Room [in the east wing] and a Nursery [in the west wing] are available for infants through age three during each worship service. If little ones become restless during the service and are disturbing other worshipers, please take them out of the service until they have settled down. Thank you!  “The Lutheran Hour” can be heard every Sunday at 8:00 AM on WIOU and sponsored by Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer.

ADULT BIBLE CLASS

Adult Bible Class continues the video series with lesson 5, “Science: What is True”. The Truth Project, presented by Focus on the Family, is a DVD-based curriculum comprised of 12 one-hour lessons taught by Dr. Del Tackett. This study is the starting point for looking at life from a Biblical perspective. Each lesson discusses in great detail the relevance and importance of living the Christian worldview in daily life.  This class meets in Mission Hall at 9:30 AM.

YOUNG ADULT BIBLE CLASS

High school graduates, college students, and young adults, we have a brand new Bible study geared especially for you.  As God’s written Word, the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments are the source of His revelation to man.  Join us in the Adult Education Room during the Sunday School hour as we learn about the production, collection, transmission, and preservation of these marvelous works in How We Got The Bible, featuring Dr. Paul L. Maier.  Listen as Dr. Maier shares his expertise and enthusiasm on the preservation and transmission of God's Word through the centuries. Dave Turner is the facilitator of this study.

HIGH SCHOOL BIBLE CLASS

The High School Sunday School class meets each Sunday at 9:30 AM in the Youth Room, and led by Kyle Bedwell and Erin Klepfer.

J FAMILY FRIENDLY IDEA

J Consider going to the balcony to meet the organist after she finishes her postlude today.  Your child will then have the opportunity to observe the playing of music to the glory of God.  He/she will also see the worship center from a different perspective.  Please be sure to hold your child’s hand and use care as you explore.

THE GROUNDS – THIS SUNDAY [TODAY]

The Grounds for high school youth (including the newly confirmed 8th graders) meets at the Akers’ home for a bonfire and games.  Talk to one of the Akers for directions.

CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP SCHEDULE CHANGE

WATCH #7

We Are The CHurch is a spiritual renewal weekend designed to further your relationship with God and other Christians. It is a rare opportunity to escape from the temptations and traps of the world. WATCH #7 will take place September 24-26 at Sangralea Valley. Register by filling out a lift off lemon form and place it in the marked WATCH at the Welcome Center.

WATCH COMMONLY ASKED QUESTION

A commonly asked question about WATCH: (This one will hurt...) What about the sports contests I was planning on observing that weekend? Sports have become a huge part of our culture. While cheering on your favorite team can be a healthy endeavor, it can also cross the line into idolatry at some point. We need to establish boundaries for our pursuit of sports entertainment (and for any habit, for that matter). So cheer on the Colts (or the Packers or the Hoosiers or the Boilers), but understand that your presence or absence from the contest won’t affect the outcome. In a year or two you won’t even remember the score, or even who won the game. There is a good chance that you would remember the WATCH weekend, however. For many people, it is an experience that one cherishes for the rest of his/her life. Who knows, we might even provide you with a score or two during meal times!  Next week's question: (this one will REALLY hurt...) What about my kids’ games I will have to miss that weekend?

STEWARDSHIP MINUTE

Paul’s prayer for the Colossians was that by God’s grace they might live lives worthy of their high calling as God’s stewards and bear the fruits of their faith.  May it also be our prayer that we and our fellow stewards live lives worthy of our high calling and keep on doing those things that honor God and bless our neighbors whether they are next door or around the world. - Colossians 1:1-14

DONUT FELLOWSHIP

Please join us in Fellowship Hall today [Sunday] from 9:30 – 9:45 AM for donuts, milk and juice, compliments of Kevin & Sarah Klepfer.

MEN'S TUESDAY BIBLE CLASS

Explaining all of the Scary Stuff in REVELATIONS featuring Rev. Ken Klaus is one of the more popular Men's Network Bible Studies.  Our Tuesday morning men's Bible study group is currently using this video based study at 7:00 AM each week.   Now would be a good time to join this group, as the video series began on July 6th.
