THE SIXTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

July 3 & July 4, 2010

On this Fourth of July weekend, we joyfully celebrate our nation’s birth. We are pleased that you’ve come to praise God, who richly blesses our beloved country. If you are a guest, thank you for visiting. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Allison or Pastor Akers and complete the information in the Rite of Fellowship pad located on the pew. Large print services and assistive listening devices are available from the ushers or at the Welcome Center. For Pastoral Care please call Pastor Allison or Pastor Akers at the church or at home. A Sitting Room [in the east wing] and a Nursery [in the west wing] are available for infants through age three during each worship service. If little ones become restless during the service and are disturbing other worshipers, please take them out of the service until they have settled down. Thank you!  “The Lutheran Hour” can be heard every Sunday at 8:00 AM on WIOU and sponsored by Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer.

PRAYERS FOR HEALING, STRENGTH, PEACE AND COMFORT

We remember Todd Batt, Rosemarie Baughman, John Recks, Braedyn Booker, Tami Brooks and John Folkers in our prayers for healing, strength, peace and comfort.

THANKS FOR YOUR LOVE!

This message is from Lora & Gary Lacy & Family:  “To members of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer – thank you for your prayers, cards and visits after our loss of my mom [Lora’s – Frances M. Brown]. We appreciate your thoughtfulness.”

Also a message from the Hales:  Dear Church Family:  We just wanted to let you know how much you have meant to us the last few years we’ve been attending LCOR.  Our family will be relocating to Fishers July 8th, and it is with great sadness that we say goodbye to all of you.  Thanks to everyone, again, who helped our family out during some tough times, and thanks for making this church a pleasant experience for our children.  We love you and will miss you. Love, The Hales, Josh, Cassie, Brooke, Lydia, Emily, and Claire.

THE CHURCH OFFICE IS CLOSED THIS MONDAY FOR THE JULY 4TH HOLIDAY.

MARRIAGE BLESSINGS

Kristi I & Shay H will be married at Our Redeemer this Saturday, July 10th at 2:30 PM.  The congregation is invited to attend this blessed event.

ADULT BIBLE CLASS

Adult Bible Class continues the video series, “The Truth Project.”  The Truth Project, presented by Focus on the Family, is a DVD-based curriculum comprised of 12 one-hour lessons taught by Dr. Del Tackett. This study is the starting point for looking at life from a Biblical perspective. Each lesson discusses in great detail the relevance and importance of living the Christian worldview in daily life.  This week’s lesson asks the question “Theology:  Who is God?” This class meets in Mission Hall at 9:30 AM.

HIGH SCHOOL BIBLE CLASS

The High School Sunday School class meets each Sunday at 9:30 AM in the Youth Room, and led by Kyle Bedwell and Erin Klepfer.

YOUNG ADULT BIBLE CLASS

High school graduates, college students, and young adults, we have a brand new Bible study geared especially for you.  As God’s written Word, the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments are the source of His revelation to man.  Join us in the Adult Education Room during the Sunday School hour as we learn about the production, collection, transmission, and preservation of these marvelous works in How We Got The Bible, featuring Dr. Paul L. Maier.  Listen as Dr. Maier shares his expertise and enthusiasm on the preservation and transmission of God's Word through the centuries. Dave Turner is the facilitator of this study.

Children: Don’t forget to pick up the new Bible Bookmark at the Welcome Center.  The topic for this week is “Children in the Bible.”

STEWARDSHIP CORNER

God’s stewards seek to use every opportunity to do good to others, especially for fellow Christians.  By our words and actions we show that we really are the children of God who delight in doing the right things for the right reasons.  How sweet life is when we and others live in such selfless ways! - Galatians 6:1-10; 14-18

PRAYER PARTNERS NEEDED

Prayer partners are needed for the Mississippi Mission Team and New York Servant Event participants.  Prayer partners provide 2 cards for their assigned servant – and pray for that individual and the group during the week of service. Sign-up sheets are at the Welcome Center.

J FAMILY FRIENDLY IDEA

J What is Prayer? Prayer is talking to God.  God promises to hear and answer us when we pray to him.  When we pray we might close our eyes, fold our hands and bow our heads so that we aren’t distracted by the things around us.  You don’t have to do all that though.  Some people pray while driving their car.

THE GROUNDS

The Grounds for high school youth will not be meeting this Sunday [today] because of the July 4th holiday.  Next week, July 11th we will meet at the Akers’ home for a bonfire and games (3608 East 100 South).  Talk to one of the Akers for directions.

NEW YORK SERVANT EVENT TEAM

The Seizing the City for Christ Servant Event team will have an important planning meeting on Sunday, July 11th at noon in Mission Hall.  We will plan and pack VBS materials.  Talk to Pastor Akers if you are unable to attend.

NATIONAL YOUTH GATHERING PARTICIPANTS

All participants are to meet in the Choir Room during Sunday School to prepare for the Gathering on Sunday, July 4 and July 11.  See Pastor Allison or Mrs. Tucker for information.

WATCH #7

We Are The CHurch is a spiritual renewal weekend designed to further your relationship with God and other Christians. It is a rare opportunity to escape from the temptations and traps of the world. WATCH #7 will take place September 24-26 at Sangralea Valley. Register by filling out a lift off lemon form and place it in the box marked WATCH at the Welcome Center.

WATCH COMMONLY ASKED QUESTION

A commonly asked question about WATCH: OK, so just how long is this going to take? From beginning to end, the weekend will total approximately 45.5 hours. Guests are asked to check in between 6:30 and 7:00 PM on Friday, September 24. It will wrap up by 5:00 PM on Sunday, September 26. If we were to skip sleeping, eating meals and breaks, we would have you out of there by Saturday afternoon, but that isn’t what the model we will be following suggests. You will live a somewhat normal life while you are there, minus the worldly distractions.  Next week’s question: (This one will hurt...) What about the sports contests I was planning on observing that weekend?

Stewardship Minute - Paul’s prayer for the Colossians was that by God’s grace they might live lives worthy of their high calling as God’s stewards and bear the fruits of their faith.  May it also be our prayer that we and our fellow stewards live lives worthy of our high calling and keep on doing those things that honor God and bless our neighbors whether they are next door or around the world. - Colossians 1:1-14

7-11-10

Stewardship Minute - St. Paul knew full well that in Christ he had been redeemed from all his past sins and failures and equipped by the power of the Holy Spirit to live his life as a good steward of the mysteries and blessings of the Gospel.  By God’s grace we are also called to freely and joyfully live our lives and use all of God’s blessings to honor Him and make life sweeter for others. - Colossians 1:21-29

7-18-10

Stewardship Minute - We became God’s stewards when the Holy Spirit called us to be God’s children through the washing of Holy Baptism and the word of salvation in Christ Jesus.  In Christ God made us alive and gives us the power to use all that we are and have [time, life, relationships, skills and money] for His purposes.  There is no greater calling in life than being a child of God in thoughts, words and actions! –

Colossians 2:6-15
