TWELFTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

August 2 & August 3, 2008

We welcome with pleasure all who have come to worship.  Let us joyfully open our hearts to God and one another.  Guest, please introduce yourself to Pastor Allison and complete the information in the Rite of Fellowship pad located on the pew in the Sanctuary. Large print services and assistive listening devices are available from the ushers or at the Welcome Center. For Pastoral Care please call Pastor Allison or Pastor Akers at the church or at home. A Sitting Room [in the east wing] and a Nursery [in the west wing] are available for infants through age three during each worship service. If little ones become restless during the service and are disturbing other worshipers, please take them out of the service until they have settled down. Thank you!  “The Lutheran Hour” can be heard every Sunday at 8:00 AM on WIOU 1350 AM, sponsored by Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer.

J FAMILY FRIENDLY IDEA

J What is an “Acolyte”? An acolyte (A-co-lite) is the person who lights the candles before the service.  The word acolyte comes from a Greek word meaning “follower.”  Parents, point out the acolyte to your children.  Remind them that one day they will have the opportunity to be an acolyte.  Remind them that being an acolyte is a very important job for children in the church.  They are helping the pastor with his important work.

THE GROUNDS

The Grounds for high school youth meets tonight [Sunday] in the Youth Room 6:30-8:30 PM.  Join us for a brief study and fellowship.

PRIMEUIMERS’ AUGUST ACTIVITY

On Wednesday, August 13, 2008, the PrimeUimers group will be going on a tour of Grissom Air Base flight line, tour a KC-135 tanker which will require a climb of a flight of steps to the aircraft.  We will have a tour of the facilities followed by lunch at the chow hall [cafeteria style – cost approximately $6.00].  After lunch, there is an optional walk through the museum and around the aircraft located on the display grounds.  We need to meet at church to car pool by 8:15 AM, leave by 8:30 AM; meet bus at Grissom for tour by 9:00 AM.  Any questions, please contact Ed Gullion.

SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS

Join us each Sunday morning for the following:

U      FELLOWSHIP - from 9:20–9:40 AM, in the school entrance for donuts, drinks and fellowship before attending a Sunday School class of your choice.

U      KIDS HONOR CLUB - Kids ages 3 through 6th grade are invited to join the “Kids Honor Club” this summer.  Kids will love these fun-filled sessions on the Biblical character quality of honor.  They will learn what honor is through a fishing expedition, how to deal with selfishness through a construction site, how to address their own anger and then go one step further by becoming peacemakers.

U      7TH & 8TH GRADERS - 7th & 8th graders serve as Club leaders and help the younger children.  Who knows, you might just learn a bit about honor as well… so join the club and help us have some fun!

WATCH #5

We Are The CHurch is a spiritual renewal weekend designed to further your relationship with God and other Christians. It is a rare opportunity to escape from the temptations and traps of the world. WATCH #5 will take place October 10-12 at Sangralea Valley. Register by filling out a lunar blue form and place it in the lunar blue box marked WATCH at the Welcome Center.

WATCH COMMONLY ASKED QUESTION

A commonly asked question about WATCH: What is so great about WATCH?  You have heard Pastor Allison and Pastor Akers make reference to the witnesses in their sermons or bible studies, meaning Peter, Paul, etc. Nothing against the disciples (their testimonies of the living God are central to Christian teaching), but you have to admit – they died a long time ago. At WATCH, you will hear from witnesses who are still living and breathing. They too can testify to the power of the living God, although these witnesses are not authors and speakers. Come and hear how God has touched the lives of those amongst us. It won’t be merely a worthwhile experience – it will be much more than that. Next week's question: You say this ends around 5:00 PM on Sunday. Are you really going to make us miss church?

CHRISTIAN MUSIC CONCERT

Join us for a FREE Christian music concert on Saturday, August 16 in South Bend.  The bands are Skillet, Casting Crowns, tobyMac, Mandisa, and C3.  Each band plays for about one hour between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM.  This looks really good, and you can’t beat the price!  For more info, go to www.worldpulsefestival.com.  This is an all-day event.  We will leave the LCOR parking lot at 6:00 AM (sorry about that, but it’s a 2-hour drive and the lines will be long) and arrive home about 10:00 PM.  Bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating.  Bring $10 for gas/parking, as well as money for lunch and supper, plus an optional $10 for the “play area” (bungee run, slide, obstacle course, moonwalks, Velcro wall, combo unit, etc.).  ***We need as many adult drivers as possible.  If we do not have enough drivers, we will not be able to go!***  Sign up at the Welcome Center.  There are a limited amount of tickets, so this is “first come, first served.”  We will have a waiting list in case of cancellations.  For more information, contact the Akers family.

THE CONGREGATION IS INVITED TO A CELEBRATION

The congregation is invited to join with Mark & Nadine P on Saturday, August 9th, 2008 for an informal gathering in Fellowship Hall between 2:00 and 6:00 PM to honor Aaron & Becky P as they approach their first wedding anniversary.  All are welcome to enjoy food and fellowship.  They request no gifts.

000e01c5889b$b2679b50$6d01a8c0@BEV6TH AND 7TH GRADE CONFIRMATION – FAITH INKUBATORS

BEGINNING SUNDAY NIGHTS (4:30-6:00 PM) IN SEPTEMBER

The family has been, is, and always will be the primary inkubator of faith. Parents are teaching faith every day.  The question is “what faith are we teaching?” There is very little that a church can do to teach faith in 90 minutes a week that can’t be undone the other 9,990 minutes.  The church can partner with parents, but we can’t do it alone.

We want to restore parents as primary teachers, mentors, and role models for their own children with the church as reinforcement – not replacement.  Your Help is needed in building a dream team. We’re seeking parents, other interested adults, and high school youth to help in these areas:

MUSIC TEAMS: People with musical talents are enlisted to serve as a Music Team. They set the mood, run Openings, and assure that key verses are taught in memorable fashions.

THEME TEAMS: To do well and maintain energy and variety, we need great teachers, actors, and storytellers. Pastors Akers and Theme Teams work to convey each theme through an assortment of Images & Analogies, Bible Times, and Creative Interruptions. Teams include senior high youth, parents, and other presenters we pull in from time to time.

FINKTECH TEAMS: A FINKtech team handles all technology, creates the feel and flow of the visuals for each theme, and makes sure the sound, lighting, and all other tech-related pieces of the presentation flow smoothly.

CARE TEAMS: In the FINK system, one out of four or five parents is needed to serve as a small group Guide for his or her children and four or five of their classmates.  A Director is enlisted to oversee small group.  The Guides are the frontline care-givers.  High school age junior guides are also needed.

We need your help!  Please prayerfully consider if God is calling you to assist in this ministry to our young people.  Use the form below or contact Pastor Akers (church: 453-0969; email: PastorAkers@RedeemerKokomo.org) to receive more information.

I would like to help and/or would like more information on these area(s) of Faith Inkubators:

_____ FINK tech Team                                            _____  Care Team
