THE 10th SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

July 31 & August 1, 2010

We are brothers and sisters in Christ, so welcome one another with sincerity, kindness and love. If you are a guest, thank you for visiting. Please introduce yourself to Pastor Allison or Pastor Akers and complete the information in the Rite of Fellowship pad located on the pew. Large print services and assistive listening devices are available from the ushers or at the Welcome Center. For Pastoral Care please call Pastor Allison or Pastor Akers at the church or at home. A Sitting Room [in the east wing] and a Nursery [in the west wing] are available for infants through age three during each worship service. If little ones become restless during the service and are disturbing other worshipers, please take them out of the service until they have settled down. Thank you!  “The Lutheran Hour” can be heard every Sunday at 8:00 AM on WIOU and sponsored by Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer.

PASTOR RUDY BLANK – COMING WEEKEND OF AUGUST 22ND

Pastor Rudy & Romona Blank, longtime missionaries to Venezuela will be visiting Our Redeemer the weekend of August 21st & August 22nd.  Pastor Blank will be preaching at each worship service and leading Adult Bible Class that weekend.

THANKS FOR YOUR LOVE!

The congregation’s prayers, and many acts of Christian love bestowed upon Rosemarie Baughman are deeply appreciated.  She is currently a resident at Waterford Place.

Children: Don’t forget to pick up the new Bible Bookmark at the

Welcome Center.  The topic for this week is “Being a Disciple of Jesus.”

MESSAGE FROM SHIRLEY HEINZMAN

“When I walked into Bible Study last Sunday, I was greeted with “We prayed for you in church this morning.”  I thought, “How nice; I need all the prayers I can get.”  Then I find out that I was supposed to have been in the hospital.  The truth is, I’m fine, and I thank God for all my blessings, even though the message was wrong about me.  The sermon that Pastor Allison gave on Sunday was TRUE.  Thank you for all who prayed and was concerned about me.  Shirley Heinzman.”

ADULT BIBLE CLASS

Adult Bible Class continues the DVD video series by Dr. Del Tackett with lesson 6, “History:  Whose Story?”.   This study is the starting point for looking at life from a Biblical perspective. Each lesson discusses in great detail the relevance and importance of living the Christian worldview in daily life.  The class meets in Mission Hall at 9:30 AM each Sunday.

YOUNG ADULT BIBLE CLASS

Dave Turner will conclude “How We Got the Bible” study series this Sunday [today] at 9:30 AM in the Adult Education Room.

STEWARDSHIP MINUTE

Since we have been raised to new life in Christ we are encouraged to set our minds on things above not on earthly things.  Our real life in Christ may seem like a hidden mystery to others, but we know that it is the only life really worth living.  May the Holy Spirit empower us to live boldly as good stewards and to encourage others to do the same. Col. 3:1-11

The Grounds for high school youth (including the newly confirmed 8th graders) meets in the Youth Room tonight (Sunday) from 6:30-8:30 PM.  Questions? talk to Jonathan Guse or Pastor Akers.

J FAMILY FRIENDLY IDEA

J Sit near the front of the church so your child can see and hear what is going on.  Have your child stand when we stand. We do this out of respect for God.  It’s also important for young children to move around.  Give them the opportunity to do that at appropriate times in the service.

WATCH #7

We Are The CHurch is a spiritual renewal weekend designed to further your relationship with God and other Christians. It is a rare opportunity to escape from the temptations and traps of the world. WATCH #7 will take place September 24-26 at Sangralea Valley. Register by filling out a lift off lemon form and place it in the box marked WATCH at the Welcome Center.

 WATCH COMMONLY ASKED QUESTION

A commonly asked question about WATCH: What is so great about WATCH?  You have heard Pastor Allison and Pastor Akers make reference to the witnesses in their sermons or bible studies, meaning Peter, Paul, etc. Nothing against the disciples (their testimonies of the living God are central to Christian teaching), but you have to admit – they died a long time ago. At WATCH, you will hear from witnesses who are still living and breathing. They too can testify to the power of the living God, although these witnesses are not authors and speakers. Come and hear how God has touched the lives of those amongst us. It won’t be merely a worthwhile experience – it will be much more than that. Next week's question: You say this ends around 5:00 PM on Sunday. Are you really going to make us miss church?

LWMSG MEETING ON AUGUST 10TH

Lutheran Women’s Missionary Service Guild [LWMSG] will meet on Tuesday, August 10th at 10:00 AM in Mission Hall.

COMPUTER MONITORS

Available in the School Art Room, [first room past the Narthex], older style computer monitors.  If you have a need for a monitor or know of someone else who has a need, please feel free to take one, first come, first serve.  All that are not taken will be sent to be recycled on August 16th. NURSERY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We would like to be able to offer childcare for children under the age of three to parents and visitors during the 10:45 service on Sunday mornings again, starting August 22nd.  In order to do this we need volunteers! Please prayerfully consider volunteering for one Sunday during the quarter.  Whether you’re the parent of a little one, or whether your children are grown and gone, please consider making a difference in our church! While it may seem like a thankless job, be assured that it can make a world of difference for moms and dads of little ones to have time for uninterrupted worship and reflection while their young child(ren) are cared for in a safe and loving environment.

Keep in mind that many parents only take their children to the nursery if they are becoming a distraction to others. If you are scheduled for nursery duty and no children show up in the first 15 minutes of the service, feel free to go back to the sanctuary. We only ask that you sit in the back where an usher can easily get your attention should you become needed in the nursery.

If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out the information below.  Return it to an usher or the white box in the Welcome Center no later than August 8th. There will be a sign up sheet hanging on the bulletin board in the nursery if you have specific dates you want to go ahead and volunteer for, otherwise I will call you to make sure the date(s) I’ve put you down for will work for you.
