Curriculum

Redeemer Lutheran School's curriculum is centered on Christ. Our school's goal is to educate students in Christian principles as well as academic excellence. Our religious beliefs are integrated in all subject areas. Redeemer Lutheran School is accredited through the National Lutheran School Accreditation (2005). Our academic curricular is based on Indiana state standards and guidelines. All textbooks used for academic subjects are from the state's recommended or approved list. Redeemer Lutheran School adheres to the 180 day school year mandate and has lengthened its school day to insure required time allotment for core academic subjects. Redeemer has at least two computers and a printer per classroom and a lab for group instruction.

Religion

Redeemer Lutheran School (RLS) uses Voyager program from Concordia Publishing House for religious instruction for grades PS-8 in addition to Luther's Small Catechism and other publications from Concordia Publishing House. A specific time is set aside for a religious class each day. Songs, prayers, Bible stories, and memory work are part of the religion curriculum. Chapel services are conducted weekly for all students.

Math

RLS uses the Harcourt math series for grades K-6. The math curriculum includes material that is both sequential and age-appropriate for each grade level. Within the chapters there are reviews that maintain mastery of concepts. In addition, there are plenty of practice, enrichment, problem-solving, and calculator activities, which reinforce skills that are presented to the student.

Language Arts

In grades K-6, RLS uses McGraw Hill's Easy Grammar series its reading program. The scope of this series includes an integration of the language arts across the curriculum and a focus on decoding, writing, spelling and grammar skills. Skills learned at each level are reinforced and built upon at the succeeding level. There is also a wide range of supplementary materials included in the series for each grade level. English and spelling skills are supplemented with additional materials. The Zaner-Bloser writing style is used for teaching handwriting.

Social Studies

RLS uses the McGraw Hill Social Studies series. The series is used from K-6. It provides appropriate understanding of geography and social skills. Supplementary materials are added to the curriculum to compliment skills taught at each level. Indiana history is taught at the 4th grade level.

Science

The McGraw Hill science series is used by RLS. The series is used from K-6. The science series is age appropriate for the different levels. There are science labs for each grade level. Numerous supplementary materials are used in teaching the various science concepts.

Music

The music curriculum includes RLS's choir program. All students in grades 1-6 sing in one of the three choirs. The choirs sing at church services, PTL functions, nursing homes, and at various community functions. Music classes are also offered in the classroom. Students in grades 4-6 may take instrument lessons.

Art

RLS utilizes the Art Attack program.

Physical Education

P.E. classes are taught by an accredited physical education instructor. Teachers follow a curriculum for P.E. The testing for the Presidents Physical Fitness Test is an important part of our P.E. program. Health classes are taught in grades 1-6 as part of our P.E. program.

Foreign Languages

RLS does not offer foreign language classes at this time.
